Father,
It was your three-personed wisdom that set the earth’s foundations and established the heavens. You are infinitely loving, eternally wise, and intimately concerned with the affairs of your beloved adopted children. You give us your word, a glorious lamp to light our path in the darkness of this evil world.
Many things we don’t need to pray about because your word is clear; we only pray for the strength to obey. Other times we have a decision before us, and we need your holy wisdom to guide us in a real, practical way. We make the pro-con list, weigh the options, and discuss with others. Our flesh begs us to rely on our own systematic logic, but you call us to a different and better way. We need your divine wisdom intervening in our very present crossroads.
You are not a cold, disconnected God aloofly hinting at the road we should walk, hoping we pick up your signs. You are our Father, jealous for our hearts’ affection. You don’t just care about the choice we make; you care about us. And you care for us. You number the hairs on our head. You are the good shepherd leading us always, whether by green pastures and still waters, or through the valley of the shadow of death.
You promise us the mind of Christ and a wisdom from above that looks like folly to the natural person. Let the decision before us drive us to greater nearness with you. Let us remember your love and behold the cross. Grant us such joy in your presence and confidence in our right-standing with you through Christ, that sin and self must flee. Give us clarity to choose the right road and not look back, even if it’s costly and uncomfortable.
Whatever the decision before us now, may it result in a greater testimony of your faithfulness and greater worship and enjoyment of Christ all the days of our lives. Amen.
