In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. In the beginning, the earth was formless, and darkness was over the face of the deep (Gen 1:2).
Then God spoke. And the Word dawned.
The Word became flesh and dwelled among us, but it seemed the darkness overcame him. What utter complete darkness the hours after Christ was murdered. His followers were formless and empty. His kingdom destroyed. Darkness hovering over the face of the Earth once more.
Then the Word dawned.
Luke 24:1 says, “But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared.
The women watched Jesus go into the tomb (Luke 23:55), so they’d know where to find him to anoint him. They arms were full of spices; their hearts full of grief. They set out in darkness, but they would return in the light!
Luke 24:2 says, “And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.”
He has risen! Christ Jesus is alive! What glorious emptiness inside that barren tomb. Every prophecy The Word spoke, The Word fulfilled. He is alive! The grave couldn’t hold him. Darkness could not overcome him. His suffering satisfied the wrath of God. He made atonement for my sin and your sin and he walked out of the tomb. He is alive. That same Jesus ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God Almighty. He is seated there this very Easter morning being worshipped by the host of heaven. Our voices join this thundering multitude — even from our living rooms! He is alive.
What darkness surrounds you now? It is fleeting. The grave has no power over us. The Word has dawned.
2 Corinthians 4:6, says” For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
Praise his name!
Hosea 6:3 prophesied, “Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.”
Let us press on the know the Lord, for one day we will meet him face to face. He is coming back for us, and that glorious day is getting closer and closer.
Thank you so much for going on this Holy Week journey with me. May that empty tomb fill you full for the days ahead. Praise to the Light of the World! Happy Easter!!
